Mr. Rodney G. Simmons, age 60 of McDonough, Georgia passed away November 21, 2011. He was born in Toccoa, Georgia to Vivian Laverne Holcomb Simmons and the late Carroll Eugene Simmons. He was preceded in death by his wife of 26 years, Pamala Ann Duffell Simmons. Rodney graduated from the University of Georgia and served his country in the Army National Guard. He was a member of McDonough Christian Church, where he was active in his Sunday school class. He worked for Macon Cigar and Tobacco and enjoyed fishing, sports and the Georgia Bulldogs. Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer (Matthew) Goodwin of Jasper; grandson, Davis Goodwin; mother, Laverne Simmons of Toccoa; sisters in law, Patti Bradford of Bishop, Kathy Johnson of Athens, Debbie White of Raleigh, NC; brother in law, Brad Duffell of Jacksonville, FL; mother in law, Betty Duffell of Bishop. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Pastor Paul Leslie will officiate. Interment will follow at Oconee Hill Cemetery in Athens at 2:30 PM. Friends may visit the family Friday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Contributions are asked to be made to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta or Southwest Christian Hospice in memory of Rodney.
