Mr. Roger Ray Owens went to his final place of rest on August 26, 2012 at the young age of 57. He was born in Dallas, Texas March 3, 1955, the son of Tommy and Jeanene (Petrey) Owens. He spent his life in Mesquite, Texas; Norman, OK; Tulsa, OK; Shawnee, KS and finally Edwardsville, IL. Mr. Owens was transferred to each city by Allied Systems where he was employed for 24 years and Jack Cooper Transport for the last 10 years as Terminal Manager of the Wentzville, MO terminal. He was recruited to play football for the University of Oklahoma in 1973. OU won two National Championships in 1974 and 1975 during the time he played there. Roger served one term on the DeSoto, Kansas school board from 1992-1997 and was instrumental on the design and project team that led the way for the NEW De Soto High School. Roger was also an exemplary contributor to the District's Strategic Planning Process. He married Vicki S. (Hardin) Owens on March 22, 1990 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and she survives. In addition to his beloved wife of 22 years and his parents, he is survived by four children - daughter Autumn Owens Beashore and her husband Chad of Kansas City, KS; son, Grant Owens of Glen Carbon, IL; son Cory Emerson of Godfrey, IL; and daughter Tara Emerson Clark and her husband Donald of Troy, IL; In-Laws, Charles and Martha Hardin of Tulsa, OK; brother, Jim Owens and wife Joan of Plainfield, IL; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sandie and Greg Esau of Tulsa, OK. Roger was the proud Papa "O" of 6 grandchildren, Tyson, Brooke & Cody Beashore and Lilly, Rowan & Raven Clark. Roger is also survived by four nieces and three nephews, other extended family and many dear friends that love him deeply. In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon, Illinois on Saturday, September 1, 2012 from 10:00 AM until time of memorial service at 12:00 noon with Chaplin Randy Butler officiating. Memorials may be made to the BJC Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 957421, St. Louis, MO 63195 and may be accepted at the funeral home.
