Hinsdale- Roger William Kozyra, Jr., 63 of Strawberry Lane, died unexpectedly Friday evening, August 12, 2011 in Hinsdale, doing what he loved, operating heavy equipment. Roger was born in Brattleboro on March 9, 1948, the son of Roger and Valeda (Rabideau) Kozyra. A resident of Hinsdale since 1955, he was raised and educated in Hinsdale graduating from Hinsdale High School with the Class of 1966. He had been employed as a maintenance supervisor at Vermont Circuits in Brattleboro for the past eleven years and previously had worked at the former BookPress in Brattleboro up until the time the company closed. For several years he was a self-employed machinist for the former Brattleboro Machine Co. on Williams Street. Roger had attended Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Brattleboro and was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Brattleboro Aerie #2445. He enjoyed fast cars and competed in quarter mile drag races at various tracks throughout New England racing his 1969 Chevy Camaro. Roger had a passion for muscle cars and trucks as well as heavy equipment. Of his other pastimes and interests he enjoyed boating, riding motorcycles and snowmobiling during the winter months. On September 6, 1997 in Hinsdale he was married to Leslee Johnson who survives. Besides his wife of almost 14 years he leaves, one daughter, Kaylah L. Hemlow and her husband Charles of Hinsdale, one sister, Sandra Akeley and her husband Ray of Hinsdale, a granddaughter, Kiley, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. With anticipated joy, he was looking forward to the birth of his second grandchild, due in mid-October. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Richard O'Donnell, V.F., pastor, celebrant. A reception will follow the Mass to be held at the Eagles Club on Chickering Drive. Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Friday from 6 to 8 P.M. Burial will be in Saint Joseph's Parish Cemetery in Hinsdale at later date. Memorial contributions in Roger's name may be made to, The Hinsdale Volunteer Fire Department, Depot Street, Hinsdale, N.H. 03451, attn: Robert Johnson, Chief.
