Dr. Roland Antoine Caire on Friday, January 21, 2011. Beloved husband of Wanda "Pie" Gendron Caire. Father and father-in-law of Dr. Roland "Butch", Jr. and Gwen Caire; Vida "Doodie" and Rick Crocker; Douglas and Rosemary Caire; Mary Alice and Rick Romero; Wanda and Jerry Muhs; Jane and Paul Fields; and Nancy and Greg Giacone. Grandfather of Brandon, Graham, and Alex Caire; Erica Crocker; Douglas, Jr., and Monica Caire, Elizabeth and Ben Clark; Christopher Bassil and Taylor Romero; Morgan Muhs; Anne and Kevin Fields; and Laurel and Bradley Giacone. Great-grandfather of Gretchen Bassil. Also survived by brothers James, Joseph, and Edward Caire, many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and special friends. Preceded in death by his son Greg Caire, parents Mr. and Mrs. James J. Caire, parents-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Gendron, Sr., sister Martha Caire Hymel, and brother
Dr. Caire was born in Edgard, LA in 1934 and was a resident of Metairie for the past 45 years. He graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1952 and Loyola University School of Dentistry in 1958. He served as a captain in the United States Army stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX and practiced dentistry and orthodontics in the New Orleans area for 50 years. He was a lifetime member of the American Dental Association, the Louisiana Dental Association, the New Orleans Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, and the Southern Association of Orthodontists. A founding member of St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, he served as a commentator, Eucharistic minister, and first president of their Co Op Club. He also received the Order of St. Louis Award from the Archdiocese of New Orleans. He was King Zeus XV during the Carnival season of 1972.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, 4317 Richland Avenue Metairie, LA. on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Michael Special School, 1522 Chippewa St., New Orleans, LA, 70130.
