East Greenwich, NY -Roland E. Sleurs, 64, of East Greenwich , passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at his home.  Born September 9, 1944 in Albany, NY; the son of the late Stephen and Julia (Covell) Sleurs.  Mr. Sleurs graduated from the Vicentian Institute in Albany and then from Paul Smith's College with a degree in forestry.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves and was promoted to Corporal in 1968.  Mr. Sleurs worked for the Department of Environmental Conservation, and later worked for General Electric in Waterford, now known as Momentive Performance Materials, until his passing.  Mr. Sleurs was looking forward to retiring and spending time on Lake Champlain. Mr. Sleurs was a very intelligent and known for his funny wit and humor. He enjoyed his pet Rottweilers and his Koi Pond, and was an avid hiker and fisherman.  He was a member of the Silva program, the Adirondack Mountain Club in Gabriels, NY, Habitat for Humanity and Amnesty International USA.  Mr. Sleurs was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Cambridge.
He was pre-deceased by his wife of 30 years, Diane Ludwig who passed away May 19, 2008.
He is survived by his children, Stacey Sleurs-Blodgett and her husband Mark of Monkton, VT, Jason Sleurs and his wife Hilary Manners of Brooklyn, NY; his former wife, Deborah Daniels of St. Johnsbury, VT; his brothers Joseph W. Sleurs of Delmar, NY, Stephen Sleurs of Latham, NY, Lawrence Sleurs of Lakeland, Fl, a sister, Rose Godlewski of Schenectady, NY.  He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Alex, Jarrett and Sawyer Blodgett. 
He was also pre-deceased by a brother, Harold Sleurs.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 1:00 pm at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 4 St. Luke's Place, Cambridge.
 Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Sleurs may be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 4 St. Luke's Place, Cambridge, NY  12816.
