Roland Rudolph Smith, Jr., was born July 6, 1946 in Florence, SC to the late Roland and Lillian Green Smith. On Monday, May 24, 2010, he departed this life as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident. He received his formal education in the Florence County Public Schools and was formerly employed at Sumter Spinning and Shoeler Industry in Sumter, SC. Roland was a member of Majority Missionary Baptist Church in Florence and Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church in Sumter, SC. On August 10, 1969, Roland and Patricia Washington were united in holy matrimony and later blessed with two children. Roland leaves behind to cherish his memory: his wife, Patricia W. Smith of Sumter, SC; two daughters, Roleesha (Willie) Montgomery of Sumter, SC and Kimberly (Darion) Hutcherson of Columbia, SC; three grandchildren, Dorian, Darion Jr., and Dillon Hutcherson; a brother, Leroy Smith of Florence, SC; an aunt/mother figure, Rev. Betty Gregg of Maryland; a sister-in-law, Melinda W. Ham of Florence, SC; two brothers-in-law, Joshua Washington and Larry (Emma) Washington of Florence, SC; a special friend and co-worker, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
