Ronald "Doug" McKenzie, age 67, lifelong Shelby resident died Friday, August 2, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family following a brief illness.

Born May 12, 1946 in Shelby to Van and Virgie (Charles) McKenzie, he was the youngest of seven children. A 1964 graduate of Shelby Sr. High School, he served in the U.S. Army as a radio teletype operator in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict.

Doug worked his entire life in the Shelby area. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing with his grandkids and daughter whom he cherished and loved dearly. He was a wonderful husband, dad, pop-paw and friend to those who were lucky enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Survivors include his wife and best friend, Diana (Cattey) McKenzie, whom he married August 2, 1969, 44 years to the day of his passing; daughter, Lorie (Dave) Jordan; his grandkids, Jessica Miller and Dylan Miller and their dad, Steve Miller, all of Shelby; his dogs, Harley and IsaBelle; three brothers, Tunney (Tracy Wagner) McKenzie of Shelby, Robert McKenzie of Mansfield, and John (Joyce) McKenzie of Crestline; his sister, Bonnie Potts of Shelby; brothers-in-law, Richard Fike of Florida, Dale Cattey, Duane (Barb Porter) Cattey, and Danny (Evelyn) Cattey, all of Shelby; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Emmett and Ida Marie Cattey; sisters, Irene "Deanie" Perry and Hazel Fike; brothers-in-law, Pottsie, and David Cattey; sisters-in-law, Lois McKenzie, Jeanette McKenzie and Sue McKenzie and his nephew, Wayne McKenzie.

Calling hours will be held Friday, August 9, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Core Community Church, 3319 Ohio 96 East, Shelby. At Doug's request funeral services will not be observed. In lieu of flowers, memorial expressions may be left to the McKenzie family, 12 Fourth St., Shelby, OH 44875.
