Ronald Tempel, age 72 of Milbank passed away February 9, 2012, at Golden Living Center in Milbank. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot. Officiating will be Rev. Jeffrey P. Spencer, Rev. Wayne Prien, and Rev. Jason Gorham. Visitation will be Monday at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank from 5 – 7 p.m.; on Tuesday at Mundwiler Faith Chapel in Wilmot from 5 – 7 p.m.; and continue at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service. The organist will be Sharon Ammann. Honorary bearers will be: James Gorham, Jason Gorham, Rob Moore, Allen Theye, and Kent Englund. Casket bearers will be: Myron Tempel, Craig Tempel, Nathan Tempel, Kyle Tempel, Casey Tempel, and Dale Rethke. Ronald Henry Tempel was born September 10, 1939, on the family farm near Marvin, SD. He was the son of John and Minerva (Fish) Tempel. He grew up in the Wilmot area and graduated from Wilmot High School. He did road work on Highway 15 around Wilmot, and then through Platte and Eden, SD. He did farm work in Montana before returning to South Dakota. He was united in marriage with Carol Rethke. Ron was a cattle hauler. He later began working at the Big Stone Canning Factory for one year, working as a cowboy, feeding and herding cattle. He later moved to Milbank and worked for Valley Queen Cheese Factory. In 1966, he began his career with Dakota Granite Company and retired from there in 1997. He was united in marriage with Kathy Moore on September 7, 1990, in Huron, SD. Ron built several garages, utility sheds, home additions , a few apartments, as well as his own home in the Milbank area. He loved carpentry and enjoyed the work. He retired early after a bad fall. Ron's family will treasure the memories of his humor and great story telling. He enjoyed life, laughter, and most of all, his family. Ron is survived by his wife, Kathy Tempel of Milbank, SD; one son, Brian (Penny) Tempel of Milbank, SD; one daughter, Cindy (Kevin) Krakow of Strandburg, SD; three step sons: James (Sarah) Gorham of Watertown, SD; Jason (Nicole) Gorham of Stockton, CA; Rob (Christa) Moore of Marshfield, WI; 11 grandchildren; two brothers: Lawrence (Linda) Tempel of Surprise, AZ; Russell (Mary) Tempel of Wilmot, SD; one sister, Sharon Riedberger of Los Alamitos, CA; and sister-in-law: Milly Tempel of Wilmot; SD; as well as many nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, John and Minerva Tempel and one brother, Gerald Tempel.
