Rev. Ronald W. Skidmore, 71, of 57 N. Franklin Street, Chambersburg, died at 11:06 A.M., Thursday, December 15, 2011, in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born February 1, 1940 in Charleston, WV, he was the son of the late Wade H. and Nina Frances (Bryant) Skidmore. He lived his early life in the Charleston area. Rev. Skidmore graduated from South Charleston High School with the class of 1958. He later received his Bachelor's Degree from Appalachian Bible College and his Master's Degree from the International Bible Institute and Seminary in Florida. He also attended West Virginia State College for one year. He and his wife of over 46 years, J. Elaine (Simmons) Skidmore, were married on February 19, 1965 in South Charleston. They have lived at their present residence for the past 23 years. In his early life, Rev. Skidmore worked as a credit manager for Montgomery Ward. He later worked as the pastor at Edgemont Baptist Church in Bluefield, WV for 15 years, the Shade Gap Community Church for two years, Dublin Mills Church for 5 years, and prior to retiring on December 26, 2010, he was the pastor at Central Baptist Chapel in Mont Alto for 15 years. He was a member of the Keystone Baptist Association and the Pennsylvania-Jersey Baptist Association. Rev. Skidmore enjoyed photography, scrapbooking, waterfalls, covered bridges, Christian music, and the music of his era. He also enjoyed his two dogs, Snickers and Cinder. At his passing, to the best of the knowledge of his family, he had been the longest living survivor of Cystic Fibrosis. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Justin W. Skidmore and his wife Cassandra of Chambersburg and Ashley B. Skidmore and his wife Jennifer of Shippensburg; one granddaughter, Annaliese M. Skidmore; one sister, Karen Lee Myers of Chambersburg; two nieces; and one nephew. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant brother and one infant sister. Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 20, 2011, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Rev. Richard Wall officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Monday evening, in the funeral home.
