On March 6th, 2010, Mrs. Rosa Baber Herron, 84, stepped into eternity and freely breathed in the splendor of heaven. She is at home with her Jesus at last. Mrs. Herron was born in 1925 in Albermarle County, Virginia; she was the daughter of the late Harry Wilson Baber and Lucy Viola Craig. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Mitchell D. Herron, Jr.; a son-in-law, Bill Rudd; five brothers, Lawson, Early, Buford, Clyde and Billy Baber; and one sister, Jean Hamilton. Mrs. Herron was a bus driver for the Chesapeake School System for over 30 years. She was a long-time member of New Temple Grove Ministries of Chesapeake. Left to cherish her memory are two devoted daughters, Joyce Rudd and Carolyn Pegram and a son-in-law Charles Pegram; four granddaughters and their husbands, Sherry and Kenny Hicks, Laurie and Frank Poe, Michelle and Tracy Sawyer and Lisa and Brian Brown; nine great grandchildren, Zack, Nick and Jordan Hinson, Caroline and Lilly Poe, Dustin Brown, Madeline Sawyer, Staci Hicks and Benjamin Markey. She also leaves a sister, Doris Gentry; a brother, Irvin Baber; a special friend, Benny Allison; her church family; and especially Pastor John and Connie McDonald. A celebration of life service will be held at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel on Tuesday, March 8, 2010, at 12 Noon with Pastor Paul Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held Monday, March 8, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to New Temple Grove Ministries Building Fund, 3972 S. Military Hwy., Chesapeake, VA 23321 or a charity dear to your heart.
