Rosemond Elizabeth Badger-Mosley was born on May 27, 1911 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Anna Eliza Washington Badger and Charles H. Badger. She was married to the late Elijah Louis Mosley, April 16, 1927 and to that union they were blessed with nine children (8 sons and 1 daughter). Also, she was blessed to be the "Matriarch" of (5) generations. Rosemond was fondly known to many family and friends as "Grandma Mosley" or "Aunt Rosie". Rosemond and her family moved to Roselle, NJ in 1933. On Easter Sunday in 1934, she and her husband Louis became members of Heard A.M.E. Church in Roselle, NJ under the pastorate of Reverend H. O. Vick. She was a very devoted member in the church. Rosemond also served as a pianist and director for the Young Children's Choir. She was active and loyal in "The Louise-Wilson Missionary Society where she held the position of Vice President, "The Heliotrope Flower Club", and a "Trustee Emeritus." She had been a Treasurer of "The Building Fund" and a volunteer at the Church Food Store. Rosemond received the Mother of the Year award at Heard A.M.E. Church in May 1969. In April 1988, she was presented "The Sojourner Truth Award" from Union County Chapter of "The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs" for her dedication and commitment to the church and the community. On April 28, 2007, Rosemond received the "Sarah Allen Silver Stars Award" at The Pines Manor in Edison, NJ for her dedicated service for 25-Plus years in the A.M.E. Church Women's Missionary Society. During World War II, Rosemond, worked as a Sealex Operator on Lamp Work at General Electric Company in Newark, NJ. Also, she drove handicapped children to school in Roselle and Linden, NJ for Bergen Taxi Co. In addition, she took care of many children during the day, fed them their breakfast, lunch and sent them off to school and kept them after school until their parents arrived to take them home. Rosemond was a wonderful caregiver; she visited and helped to take care of many elderly friends, shut-ins, and neighbors. She gave much love and comfort care. Rosemond enjoyed baking cakes, pies and especially her "ROLLS"---they were all delicious---what a baker she was. She was an active member of the Booster Club of Roselle, NJ when her children and grandchildren were attending the Roselle Public School system. At age 73, Rosemond fulfilled her dream by earning her "High School Education Diploma. In 1983, Rosemond was honored for her perseverance at the "Abraham Clark Scholarship awards Ceremony" held at Locust Street School (now known as L. V. Moore School). High School Principal, George Sliwak, presented her with a diploma-High School Equivalency test. In June 1984, she enrolled at Union County College in Elizabeth, NJ to obtain a state Graduation Equivalency Diploma (GED). She passed the required tests on her first attempt and was awarded a diploma at Union County College. For this accomplishment she was honored with a resolution and plaque from the Roselle, Borough Council. However, she said she wished she had graduated from high school when she was younger. Also in June 1984, she was featured in the "Daily Journal" newspaper ---titled, "A Right To Be Proud". In October 1999, Rosemond became a resident at Pinewood Hall Senior Citizens Apts. Roselle, NJ. She was selected "The Tenant of the Month" and was featured in "The Pinewood Hall Gazette" in April 2002. She enjoyed going to the Sewing Group meetings at Pinewood Hall where she would sew, knit and crochet sweaters, hats, booties, scarves and quilts with the group for the sick children in the hospitals. The Sewing Group worked for the R.S.V.P. organization of Elizabeth, NJ who would see that the children receive these beautiful items. Rosemond was the true and loved lady at Pinewood Hall and without exaggeration she was an inspiration to her beloved neighbors and friends. Rosemond has had many, many bouts of illnesses, but the Lord gave her strength to endure her suffering. She has fought a good battle and now she is at peace. Rest on our dear "Mama"; we will all miss you so very, very much. Rosemond Elizabeth Badger-Mosley departed this life peacefully on April 22, 2011 at the age of 99 at Westfield Center Genesis Elder Care and The Vitas Hospice Care in Westfield, NJ and Evercare (United Health Care) in Westfield, NJ. Rosemond's husband, Elijah Louis Mosley of 56 years predeceased her in August 1983 and by three sons: Gerald Horace, Terrell Louis and Carlton Jean Mosley. Also, two daughters - in - law – Lena Elizabeth Mosley and Clara Joan Mosley. She leaves to cherish fond memories: Five Sons – Donald (Elaine) of Linden, NJ, Clarence of Stone Mountain, GA, Sinclair (Ollie), of Chesapeake, VA. Charles (Cynthia) of Roselle NJ and Kevin (Priscilla) Mosley of McDonough, GA., One Daughter-Maurice "Sister" (John) Cummins of Roselle, NJ.
