Rosie K. Giessel September 18, 1920 ~ July 16, 2011 Funeral services for Rosie K. Giessel, 90, a lifelong resident of Burleson County, are set for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 19 2011 at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville with Rev. John Boydston officiating. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 18th at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Mrs. Giessel died Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Hudson Creek Nursing Home in Bryan. Rosie, as she was known to everyone, was born September 18, 1920 in the Birch Community of Burleson County, to Albert and Emilie (Albrecht) Poehl. She went to school in Birch and worked as an assembler for Keller Chair Factory. She was a rancher who loved raising cattle, enjoyed gardening and canning food and going fishing. She was a faithful member of Evangelical United Church of Christ in Lyons. She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ludwig Kucera; her second husband, John J. Giesel;her sister, Lilly Phelps; and her five brothers, Henry, Robert, Oscar, Albert and Frankie Poehl. Survivors include her numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.
