Ross Edward "Ed" Shank, 76, of the 300 block of Appian Ave., Virginia Beach, VA, passed away August 7, 2011, in his home. A native of Springfield, OH, he was the son of the late Clinton and Garnet Shank. He retired from the United States Navy as a Photographer after 26 years of service. He also retired from the Virginia Beach Public Schools as a Teacher. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. Ed was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn E. Shank, and is survived by his daughter, Margaret E. Shank, his son-in-law, Derald E. Jones, both of Virginia Beach, VA; five grandchildren, William, Jessica, Ariel, Ashlynn and Daniel; two nieces; a nephew; and a sister-in-law. A memorial service will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service and at his residence following the service. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com. My Father Daddy, Dad, Father, Papa, Grandfather. Son, Companion, Lover, Fighter, Husband. Friend, Teacher, Mentor. However you see him he was one of a kind. He taught me how to dance with a partner, fish, hunt and use different tools. He taught me to be patient. He loved me no matter what I did and Always forgave me for the mistakes I made. He was always kind to anyone he met. He was always the protector and the fixer of life in our family. He always made you feel secure and loved. He always came through in a pinch. My Dad was my dad and there will never be another like him in the world.
