Mr. Roy Barnett Mitchell, 92, died Saturday morning, January 14, 2012.

Mr. Mitchell was a man with sound business vision, enthusiasm, loyalty, coupled with artistic talent. He graduated from New York University and served in the United States Army Aircorps. A World War II veteran, he achieved the rank of Captain while in the Aircorps.

Mr. Mitchell's legacy of service includes his previous employment as General Manager of Berry's On Main in Columbia and as
owner of Contempo Fashions at Lourie's. He had a passion for the stage and was involved with the Columbia Town Theater for more than 50 years, both as a member of the Board of Directors and as an actor in numerous productions. He was an active member of Columbia Downtown Action Council as part of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce for many years and a member of Tree of Life Congregation.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife of 69 years, Bonnie P. Mitchell, his daughters, Ande M. Jackson (Bill), Jill M. Bramblett (Roger); a son, Gary M. Mitchell (Jan); six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

A Graveside service will be Monday, January 16, 2012 at 3:30pm at Hebrew Benevolent Cemetery with Rabbi Sanford Marcus officiating.
