ROY EMMETT THORP November 13, 1934 ~ August 16, 2011 Roy Emmett Thorp was taken from us unexpectedly on August 16, 2011. He was born November 13, 1934 in Fairplay, CO. He attended Scappoose and Rosevelt High Schools and graduated in 1952. He worked as a Union Carpenter out of Local 1715. Roy was a self-taught musician, playing the banjo, guitar, and dobro. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching and building musical instruments. He volunteered at the The Cedar Creek Grist Mill where he served as their Treasurer. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marlys (Lueth) Thorp; his brothers and sisters, Sandra Haynie (Chuck), Janice McCluskey, Carol Johnson (Sven), Gus Thorp, and Joe Thorp; his son, Jay Thorp (Dianna) of La Center; son, Jerald Thorp (Sharon) of Vancouver; daughter, Jill Boyd (Randy) of Tukwila; six grandchildren, Brenda Liebman (Ron), Brian Thorp, Samuel Boyd, Anna Boyd, Zachary Boyd, and Bethany Boyd; and two great-grandchildren, Kate and Tess Liebman. A graveside service will be held Monday, August 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with a reception to follow in the Hospitality Room. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Friends of Cedar Creek Grist Mill, P.O. Box 1404, Woodland, WA 98674.
