Roy E. Wood, 87, of Freedom, passed away at his residence on Sunday, July 27, 2008. He was born July 23, 1921 in Indianapolis to Clelle and Roxie (Buchanan) Wood. Roy was a Navy veteran serving during WWII. He was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church, Carpenter's Union out of Indianapolis, and a member of the Clay City American Legion.
Mr. Wood is survived by his wife on 67 years, Betty (Mann) Wood, two sons Jerry E. Wood of Spencer, and Steve R. Wood of Freedom, one daughter Patsey L. Munson of Warsaw, a brother Raymond Wood of California, 13 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren,
He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Hazel Duncan and a brother Ron Wood.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, July 31, 2008 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer. Pastor David Freeman will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer where military graveside services will be conducted by the Spencer American Legion, Spencer VFW and Clay City American Legion. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.
