Vernon- Ruby P. Lucier, 91, a resident at Vernon Green Assisted Living, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening, August 30, 2011 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. Mrs. Lucier was born in Brattleboro on October 10, 1919, the daughter of Charles and Ruby (Streeter) Ebbighausen. She was raised in Hinsdale, attending Brattleboro schools including Brattleboro High School. She had been employed as a retail sales associate for many years at the former Michaelman's Store on Main Street in Brattleboro and was also a devoted homemaker. Mrs. Lucier was a member of the Brattleboro Women's Evening Club and the Brattleboro Country Club. For 35 years and prior to moving back to the Brattleboro area in 2007, with her husband she had resided in Pompano Beach, Florida. Of her pastimes and interests she enjoyed golf, swimming, knitting and time shared with her family. On March 4, 1939 in Brattleboro she was married to Robert W. Lucier who survives. Besides her loving husband of 72 years she leaves, three daughters, Paula Girard and husband Donald of Turners Falls, Mass, Judy Barnes and husband Richard of Hinsdale, and Linda Enright and husband Larry also of Hinsdale. Additionally she is survived by nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Robert "Bud" Ebbighausen, and two sisters, Ella Parenchuck and Evelyn Smith. In accordance with Mrs. Lucier's final wishes there will be no formal funeral services. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to a charity of one's choice.
