Russell C. Hoover March 1, 1942 ~ September 23, 2011 Funeral services for Russell C. Hoover, 69, of Somerville are set for 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2011 from Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Roy Norsworthy officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p. m. Sunday at the funeral home. According to the family's wishes, Mr. Hoover will be cremated following the funeral service. Russell was born March 1, 1942, in Jamestown, Ohio, the son of Raymond and Janie Florence (Armstrong) Hoover. After leaving High School, he joined the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War from 1960 through 1969 and became a Navy Seal. He was married to Mary Jane (Kuhn) Hoover on February 2, 1972 in Ohio. Russell worked as a commercial master electrician and was one of those men who never met a stranger. He could talk to anyone about anything and loved having an intelligent conversation with family and friends. He was a voracious reader who loved listening to music and drawing. He enjoyed teaching anything from tying shoes to teaching electrical classes. He traded and collected guns and made knives as a hobby. He was a well-rounded person who loved his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Hoover of Somerville; his son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Shannon Hoover of New Ulm, daughters, Penny and her husband Scott Lenamon of Groesbeck, Beth and her husband Justin Linn of Huntsville, Laura Hoover and her close friend Matt Retzlaff of Somerville, Dedrah Conger and her close friend, Bruce Hamilton of Ohio, his sons, Raymond Hoover of Pennsylvania, and Elwood Hoover of Caldwell; his brother Clifford Hoover of Clyde, Ohio, his sisters, Juanita Wilson, Ramona Collins, and Rosalind Cottrill, all of Washington Courthouse, Ohio; along with seventeen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and numerous friends. Family members have requested that in lieu of flowers, donations to help defray funeral costs would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.
