Ruth E. Jones, 84 Ruth E. (Hodsdon) Jones, 84, wife of Henry Jones of Gloucester, passed away on Monday afternoon, October 10, 2011 in the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester. Ruth was born in Gloucester, MA on September 28, 1927, the daughter of Freeman and Grace Hodsdon. She grew up in Rocky Neck and graduated from Gloucester High School in 1945. Following graduation, she went to work for Gloucester Safe Deposit and Trust Company, where she met her future husband, Henry. In her younger years, she was an avid painter and golfer at the Bass Rocks Golf Club. She also enjoyed gardening and was very proud of her award winning window boxes. But her life really revolved around raising her 3 kids. She had a warm, welcoming personality and an effusive sense of humor and wit. She was also very proud of her 7 grand sons. She is survived by her loving husband Henry, whom she was married to for 58 years, her three children Scott and his wife Tonya, of Tucson, AZ, Linda Burns and her husband Daniel, of No. Andover, MA, and David and his wife Amy, of So. Hamilton, MA, and seven grandsons, Matthew and Mark Jones of AZ, Ryan and Kyle Burns of North Andover, and Henry, William and Nate Jones of So. Hamilton, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre deceased by her brother, Ralph Hodsdon and her niece Ethel Shatford, who was like a sister to her. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, October 14, at 11:00 a.m. in the Independent Universalist Unitarian Church, 50 Middle St. Gloucester. Family and friends are cordially invited. Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St. Gloucester will be held on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. The burial will be held privately.
