Ruth Ellen Back was called to her eternal home early Saturday morning, January 8th, 2011 at the age of 70.
Born into the Jewish faith on July 29, 1940 to the late New York natives Nathan and Bea Satzman in Brooklyn, New York, Ruth spent the first ten years of her life in New York before moving with her family to Culver City, CA. She continued her education in Culver City graduating from Culver City High School as a member of the 'Class of 1957'.
Ruth went on to attend UCLA for a year prior to her first marriage and the birth of her children. She returned to college after raising her daughters graduating from College of the Canyon where she earned her teaching credential. She was employed by the Los Angeles Unified School District as an Elementary School Teacher for 33 years retiring in 2000.
On April 14, 1984 Ruth through a blind date met the love of her life and her best friend Martin A. Back. The two were united in matrimony in the back yard of her brother's home in Beverly Hills, CA.
The couple after 7 years of vacationing at their home at Lake Almanor, CA made it their permanent residence in 2007 after residing in Ridgecrest, CA for five years.
Ruth continued her love of education by working as a volunteer for literacy classes at the Chester Lake Almanor Library. She had a love of animals and was a staunch supporter of the National Humane Society. She found solace in reading and with her husband traveled the world together.
In passing Ruth leaves her loving husband Martin Back, Sr. of Lake Almanor, CA, children, Wendi, Randi (Ramon), Kathy, Martin, Jr. (Michelle), Melanie (Brad), the joys of her life her grandchildren; Natalie (Randall), Nicole, Jeremy, Bradley (Courtney), Penny (Scotty), Eddie, Jonathan, Tyler, Jacob, Anna Rose and Jeremiah along with her great grandchildren, Billy, Ethan and Jaden. Ruth will be dearly missed by so many she touched throughout the year along with her companions Shayna and Sammy.
She joins her parents and brother; Barry in their eternal home.
A celebration of Ruth's life will take place 2:00PM Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the Fehrman Mortuary Chapel-Chester. Interment will take place in the Chester District Cemetery. An opportunity to express your condolences to the family along with signing the memorial guest register is available online at www.fehrmanmortuary.com.
