Ruth M. (Blue) von Gunten, 92, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Englewood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne. Born in Ft. Wayne, Ruth worked as a Switchboard Operator with Lincoln National Life Insurance Co. for 27 years, retiring in 1973. She attended Calvary Third Presbyterian Church,was a member of Beta Sigma Phi-Sorority and volunteered at Parkview Hospital for 18 years. She was a dog lover and a strong supporter of P.E.T.A.; Humane Society of US; Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals. She was a native and lifetime resident of Ft. Wayne, graduating from South Side HS in 1938. Surviving are her sister Marguerite F. Dearth of Ft. Wayne, step-daughter Jan (John) Hines of Logan, UT. She was preceeded in death by her beloved husband of 37 years, Harvey and parents Martin and Lyda Blue. "Marguerite and Jan would like to thank the nurses and aides in the Touchstone Unit of Englewood Health & Rehab for the kind and loving care they have given Ruth for the last four years, Nancy Gemmer for her unfailing advocacy for Ruth during that time, Barbara from Home Instead for cheering her weekly and the staff of New Hope Hospice for easing Ruth’s last eight months of life.
