Brattleboro- Ruth Olive Stark, 83, a resident at Pine Heights Nursing Home died Wednesday evening, February 1, 2012 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital following a period of declining health. Mrs. Stark was born in Spencer, Massachusetts on January 27, 1929, the daughter of Byron and Ethel Chandler) Watson. At age eight, with her family, she moved to West Brattleboro where she was raised and educated, attending Academy School. Mrs. Stark worked several part-time jobs throughout the years but was primarily a faithful and devoted homemaker whose life centered around her family. She became a resident of Eden Park Nursing Home (Pine Heights), thirty years ago following an accident on Upper Canal Street where she was struck by a car, sustaining a serious head injury. When she was a resident in West Brattleboro she had attended West Brattleboro Baptist Church. Mrs. Stark loved nature, including birds, fish and cats, enjoyed crocheting, bowling and playing BINGO. Through her winnings at Pine Heights she accumulated quite a collection of stuffed animals. On July 7, 1951, in West Brattleboro she was married to Willard Stark who predeceased her on August 31, 1984. Survivors include one brother, Byron Watson Jr. and his wife Marion of Vernon, two sisters, Virginia Bragg and her husband Robert of East Montpelier, and Harriet Streeter of Windsor. She also leaves many nieces and nephews as well as her extended family at Pine Heights. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Tibbetts, pastor of Vernon Union Church officiating. Burial will follow in West Brattleboro Cemetery on Mather Road where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
