Ruth Marie Schumacher (nee Peterson), a resident of Bethesda for 40 years, died peacefully December 18 in Annapolis.
She was born March 8, 1925, in Chicago, IL, to Harold and Effie Peterson, and graduated from Oak Park High School before attending Rosary College. A housewife and mother, she was also an active member of Hillsmere Garden Club, and enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake, taking overnight trips with the Annapolis Sail & Power Squadron, and volunteering at the Humane Society and the Annapolis Boat Show.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Charles Culbertson; and sister, Grace Laube.
She is survived by her husband, William K. (Bill) Schumacher of Annapolis, whom she married September 11, 1973; two daughters, Cynda Green of Pagosa Springs, CO and Kinee Hanson of Maui, HI; and granddaughter, Jessica Green of San Diego, CA.
A Celebration of Life will take place in the spring. Arrangements handled by the John M. Taylor Funeral Home, Inc., 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, 6 Herndon Avenue, Annapolis MD 21403.
