Ruth Marie (Collins) Sturgill

Ruth Marie (Collins) Sturgill age 74, of Mabscott, WV, went to Heaven to be with her loving husband Roy Alvin Sturgill whom passed January 29, 2009, at 7:00 PM Tuesday, January 17, 2012.
She was born Ruth Marie Collins at Itmann, WV in 1937.
Those that preceded her were her father Oakley Lewis Collins, mother Pearl May (Farmer) Collins, (two infants, boy and girl who died at birth), Hobert Oakley Collins, James Arthur Collins, Jimmy Jack Collins, Clarence Lee Collins, David Wenton Collins, Billy Jack Collins, Bonnie Iris Lilly; step-mother Dora Mae (Jarrell) Collins, a step- brother Robert Mullins.
Those that she left behind to carry on her memory are Patricia Carol (Sturgill) and husband Rex Hampton of Beckley, WV, Rose Marie (Sturgill) Shorter of Princeton, WV, Sandra Kay (Sturgill) Meador of Greensboro, NC, two sons, Alvin Lewis Sturgill of Mabscott, WV and Roger Dale Sturgill of Crab Orchard, WV; brother Harry Ray Collins of Pontiac, MI; sisters Mary Jane (Collins) Fraley of Waterford, MI and Dorothy Louise (Collins) Brewer of Beckley, WV; two step-brothers Pete Mullins of Crab Orchard, WV and David Mullins of Beckley, WV; 9 grandchildren, Patrina Hampton, Rex and Vanessa Hampton, Rodney and Angie Shorter, Scotty Shorter, and James and Heather Richardson, Jose' and Sara Torres, Daniel and Tammy Laverty, Brandon and Loretta Davis and Cinda Meador; 20 ½ great-grandchildren, Dominique, Desirae, Erin, Dakota Hampton, Bianca Gray, Clayton, Lexie, Brittany, Breanna Shorter, James, Isaiah Richardson, Treston, Christian, Christopher, Teddy Torres, Shayna, Trevor and Maxey Laverty, Landon, Lilah Davis and one coming in April (Cinda) Matthew; and many, many friends and loved one.
Ruth was a proud Coal Miner's Daughter and a Coal Miner's Wife. She worked for a short time at the Beckley Hospital, on Oakwood Avenue in Beckley. She was a loving mother, wife and homemaker. She loved to crochet until Arthritis took its toll on her hands. She was a member of the Beckley CB Club, and went by the call handle of "PIZZA QUEEN". Ruth also enjoyed NASCAR, loved Bill Elliott, and Kasey Kane. She also loved having her weekly trips to the Crossroads Mall, to meet all her "MALL FRIENDS". She loved camping and fishing. She was a member of the Sprague Freewill Baptist Church but attended Crab Orchard Baptist Church when her health allowed. When her health took its worst she viewed The Good News Hour, Inspiration Time, Songs of Zion, Miracle Deliverance Revival on the Sunday morning broadcast. She loved to sing and prayed daily that she wouldn't be a burden to her children. Her passing was peaceful at the Doug and Lucy Bowers Hospice House of Beckley, WV.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Pastor F.D. "Mickey" Sexton officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Friends may gather with the family Friday from 6 – 8 PM at the funeral home.
