Sally Wood Brebner, 84, of Marquette, died Saturday afternoon, July 16, 2011 at her home. Sally was born on October 12, 1926 in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin to the late Nate and Pauline (Stroh) Wood. She was a graduate of Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin with a degree in Art. While at Lawrence, Sally excelled in athletics including horseback riding, golfing, tennis, and running. She received many awards in tennis and golf. Sally loved to travel and spend time in the outdoors. She was known for her sense of humor and enjoyed surrounding herself with young people. Family and friends were very special to Sally. Those who knew her will always remember her smile, her positive outlook on life and the twinkle in her eye. Sally was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marquette. She was involved in the fundraising campaigns for Peter While Public Library and the Marquette Regional History Center. She was also a founding member of the Cotillion Dance Club, the Lake Superior Art Association and a very successful watercolorist. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Robert B. Brebner whom she married on October 9, 1946 in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; three daughters, Natalie (Jeff) Wisehart of Seeley Lake, MT, Jamie A. Brebner of Libby, MT and Polly (Richard) Derby of Ishpeming; four grandchildren, Ashley W. Wisehart, McKenna L. (Sean) Wildhaber, Walker B. Derby and Hanna P. Derby; one great grandson, Hudson Wildhaber; a sister, Mary Small of Naples, FL; also numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death besides her parents was a son, Robert P. Brebner; one brother, Johnny Wood and a sister, Jane Guy. Sally's family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, July 23rd beginning at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Marquette. A memorial service and celebration of her life will follow at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Nicholas Cammarata officiating. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Sally's memory are kindly asked to consider the YMCA Skate Park c/o the Marquette County Community Foundation, 401 E.
