Salvador Castaneda passed away on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at the age of 71 with his family by his side.
Sal was born in Oxnard on Aug. 30, 1939, to Salvador and Guadalupe Castaneda. Sal was a devoted father and grandfather. He was an accomplished photographer for over 40 years. He was also a Vietnam veteran having served two tours with the 116th Assault Helicopter Company of the 25th Infantry Division. After his military duty he went to work for the Navy at Pt. Mugu in 1984.
Salvador was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Rosario who he was married to for 20 years. He is survived by his children, daughters, Regina Gonzalez, Monica Castaneda; son, Daniel Castaneda (Marina); grandchildren, Robert (Naley) Rose Gonzalez, Jessica, Daniel Jr., Jonathon, Hailey Castaneda, and Julian and Jack McCarthy. He is also survived by seven sisters, Libby Martinez (Ralph), Guadalupe Stine, Trini Maldonado, Thelma Valles (Richard), Maria Carranza (Alberto), Isabel Gonzalez (Mario), Rosa Garner (Michael); four brothers, Manuel Castaneda (Martha), Alfred Castaneda (Jenny), Jesse Castaneda, Demetrio Silva; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation for Salvador was held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, at Santa Clara Mortuary, 2370 North "H" Street, Oxnard, with evening Vigil/Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, at Santa Clara Church, 323 South "E" Street, Oxnard.
