Services for Samuel Ray Odstrcil, 73, of Caldwell, are set for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 9, 2010, at The Strickland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Todd Jordan officiating. Interment will follow at the Masonic Cemetery under the care and direction of Strickland Funeral Home of Caldwell. A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 8, 2010 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. also at Strickland Funeral Home. Sam passed away on September 5, 2010 at his beloved home in Cooks Point. Sam was born January 9, 1937, to W. R. Odstrcil and Lydia Trcalek Odstrcil in Bryan, Texas. He married Ina F. Watson on July 28, 1956 in Caldwell, Texas. Sam was a charter member of the Edinburg Lions Club and the Edinburg Golf Association. Sam retired from the University of Texas-Pan American in 1992, where he held the position of Director of Purchasing and the last appointment as Athletic Director. Sam is survived by his wife Ina, son; Cory C. & Diana Odstrcil of Missouri City, Texas, daughters and sons-in-law; Lezlie and Jeff Moreland of Harwood, MD, Paula & Lance Lewis of Austin, sisters and brothers-in-law; Willie Mae Groce of Caldwell, Emma & Frankie Kubin of Bryan, Barbara & Rudy Rahnert of Houston, grandchildren; Ashley Odstrcil, Kyle Odstrcil, Trevor Moreland, Samantha Moreland, and another one on the way, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Paul & Joan Johnson of Richmond, Texas, Wayne & Irma Watson of La Feria, Texas, and Pamela Usrey of Madison, WI. Sam was preceded in death by his parents and one son Colby Odstrcil. Memorial may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 306 W. Fox, Caldwell, Texas 77836.
