S. Robert (Bob) Lyon, retired pharmacy owner and civic leader, died on Wednesday, August 31st. He was 83 years old.

A pharmacist for nearly 50 years, Lyon founded and operated Lyon's Pharmacy on MacArthur Drive in North Little Rock in 1958. During his 40-year tenure as owner of Lyon's Pharmacy he added two more drug store locations in Maumelle and Oak Grove. He retired from pharmacy ownership in 1999. The prescription labels from Lyon 's Pharmacy included his motto "We do not sell we serve." His favorite part of being a pharmacist was helping his patients. He and wife Carole resided in the Lakewood area of North Little Rock for over 40 years before moving to Fox Ridge in Little Rock in 2009.

Lyon was also a very active civic leader in his local community. He served as chairman of the North Little Rock Housing Authority and president of the North Little Rock School Board. Lyon also served as president of the North Little Rock Rotary Club. He was a long-time member and deacon at Park Hill Baptist Church.

The retired U.S. Navy veteran moved to Arkansas from Missouri in the late-1940s to attend pharmacy school at the School of the Ozarks. The pharmacy school was relocated to the University of Arkansas Med Center campus in Little Rock while Lyon was attending classes. He was a member of the first University of Arkansas School of Pharmacy graduating class in 1951.

He and Carole, a registered nurse, were married in 1954 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock. Lyon was the son of Sam and Alice Lyon of Kansas City, MO. He is survived by his wife Carole; two brothers David and Bud (both in Missouri); son Marc (Nashville, TN) and wife Jean; daughter Robin (Lyon) Woodruff (Little Rock) and husband Keith; and five grandchildren-- Rachael, Robert, Hannah, Mary Grace and Tanner.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Park Hill Baptist Church in North Little Rock with Dr. Cary Heard and Dr. Ken Shaddox both officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Lyon to Park Hill Baptist Church.
