Mrs. Sandra L. "Sandy" (Johnston) Peters, a resident of Melrose, passed away suddenly, on Tuesday morning, November 1, 2011 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, at the age of 70.

Sandra Johnston was born in Somerville on July 15, 1941, one of four children of the late Walter L. and Evelyn S. (Rice) Johnston. She was raised and educated in Medford where she graduated from Medford High School with the Class of 1959.

A devoted wife to a military veteran, Sandy was the past president of the Ladies Auxiliary at Lt. Norman Prince VFW Post #1506 and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary at S/Sgt. George J. Hall VFW Post #639 where she was also the bartender for 17 years. She loved crocheting blankets for all the new additions to the family, including her son Scott's pet dog, Harry.

She was the beloved wife of Robert J. Peters with whom she shared 40 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Robert J. Peters, Jr. and his wife Kim of Anchorage, AK, Duane P. Grandi and his wife Cheryl of Nashua, NH, Scott A. Grandi and his wife Vickie of Billerica, Mark E. Grandi and his wife Kelly of Everett, Robyn L. Wilson and her husband Kris of Melrose, Nicole L. Waters and her husband Kevin of Malden, and the late Robyn Grandi.

Dear sister of Clifford S. Johnston of Locust Grove, VA, Paula Fitzemeyer of Melrose, and Marilyn J. Johnston of Locust Grove, VA. Cherished grandmother of Scott, Steven, Joseph, Brittanie, Chance, Jennifer, Kristyn, Matthew, the late Kristopher, Bailey, Nicholas, Bianna, Steven, Matthew, Jakob, Chandler, Brooklynn, Savannah, Avery, Declan. Loving great-grandmother of Tyler. She is also survived by beloved friend, Mike J. Flynn of Melrose, and Harry, the favorite family dog.

Relatives and friends will honor and remember Sandy's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, November 3 from 4-8 PM and on Friday morning at the Church of the Nazarene, Short St., Melrose, where her Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10:00 AM.
