Sarkis A. Hazzouri, Sr., age 89, passed away Sunday morning at his home in Scranton surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esme Karam Hazzouri, on November 25, 2002. Born in Scranton on January 1, 1922, son of the late Alex and Zahia Soma Hazzouri, Sarkis was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1940, and a Veteran of the Navy. Prior to his retirement, he served as co-owner and operator of Hazzouri Brothers & Co., Inc. A member of St. Ann Maronite Church in Scranton, he was also a member of its Holy Name Society. He was a member at the A. Hank Evanish Health Club, Scranton. He is survived by four children, his daughters, Barbara Hazzouri, with whom he resided, and Alexis Kirijan and husband Fred of Atlanta, Georgia; and his sons, Joseph Hazzouri and wife Sharon, and Stephen Hazzouri and wife Gloria, all of Scranton; two brothers, Adeeb A. Hazzouri and wife Lorraine of Scranton, and Rev. Alex J. Hazzouri of Dunmore; five grandchildren, Richard Hazzouri and wife Kim of West Pittston, Gregg Hazzouri and wife Megan of Clarks Summit, Eric Hazzouri and Kristina Hazzouri, both of Scranton, and Attorney Stephanie Kirijan of Atlanta; three great grandchildren, Adrien, Eamonn and Sarkis Hazzouri; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hazzouri of Scranton; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Stanley and Mary Karam of Scranton; and many loving nieces and nephews. Also preceding him in death was a son, Sarkis Hazzouri, Jr.; grandsons, Dr. J. Christian Kirijan and Stephen M. Hazzouri; brothers, Joseph, Sr., and Dr. Albert Hazzouri, Sr.; and sisters, Waddad Abdalla and Dalal Hazzouri. Mass of Christian Burial and Committal are scheduled for Thursday at 10:30AM in St. Ann Maronite Church, corner of North Sumner Avenue and Price Street, to be concelebrated by both Sarkis' brother, Rev. Alex J. Hazzouri, and Rev. Francis J. Marini, Pastor. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. All are asked to go directly to the church. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 1-4:00PM and 6-9:00PM at the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, West Scranton.
