Shawn Michael Mahaffey, 41, passed away May 2, 2011 in Idaho. He was born March 19, 1970 to William Hale Mahaffey and Marlene Gardner Mahaffey in Mesa, Arizona.

Shawn married Celeste Treanor, daughter of Dave Treanor and Jane Hess, in Spanish Fork Utah on November 24, 2001.

He is survived by his wife and his children: Brooklin Kate (19), Breea Amanda (16), Donovan McKade (9), and Ryan Michael (7). He is also survived by his father William Mahaffey and his siblings: Shannon (Doran) Williams, Salem, Utah; Crystal (Gary) LeSueur , Mesa, Arizona; Robert (Kristina) Mahaffey, Florence, Arizona; April (Greg) Miller, Salem, Utah; his grandfather Orville Freemon Mahaffey (age 99) of Payson Utah, and 49 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Marlene Mahaffey and his grandparents: Gladys Hale Mahaffey , Gracie Chilton Johnson Mahaffey, Arthur Elmer Gardner, & Ella Vilate Eagar Gardner.

Shawn lived his life with intense passion and lived every moment to the fullest. He was a skilled fisherman. You could often find him up in the mountains amidst the beauties of God. He appreciated the Master’s Hand in all of His creations. His greatest love however, was his family. He loved them deeply and shared his passion for the outdoors with them. It would not be uncommon to find him butterfly catching, hiking, or motorcycle riding with them.
Shawn was a master craftsman. He could fix anything. If it wasn’t broken, he would break it so he could fix it. Shawn went out of his way to serve others. He would frequently be found at friends and neighbors houses giving them a helping hand. He worked in the printing business and also in construction. If Shawn was given a challenge, he would figure it out when no one else could. He was a very gifted man.

Shawn had a magnetic personality which drew many people to him. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a member of the Elders Quorum in the church and also served as a scout leader. He was greatly loved by the boys. Shawn was just one of the kids. Children loved to be with him. He made life fun and exciting.

Shawn will be greatly missed. May we always remember him by living each day to the fullest and by appreciating the beauty that is all around us. We now have another angel watching over us and look forward to the day we will be with him again.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be made in Shawn’s name at Central Bank (801-798-7481). Interment will be in the Salem City cemetery surrounded by the mountains he loved. Friends and family are invited to wear purple at the services. Please contact Celeste Mahaffey at 801-995-5522 or celeste.mahaffey@gmail.com if you are planning on attending either one of the services for information on dates and times. (Feel free to call, text or email and she will respond as soon as time permits).
