Shirle McConnor, born January 25, 1925, passed away peacefully in the home she loved on June 2, 2010. Born Shirle Marie Dodds in Chicago, Illinois she married her long time sweetheart, James Roberts who was taken from her by World War II after only a few months together. She later met and married Nolo Shriner “Bill” Ridgway, with whom she had one daughter, Alison. Shirle and Bill lived in Los Angeles for 35 years, later moving to Rancho Santa Fe, California. There they built a home together and became active participants in their community. After being widowed a second time, Shirle met and married the third love of her life, William Sanborn McConnor, with whom she much enjoyed her remaining nineteen years. Highlights of those years were many travels and their Pennsylvania second home at the Rolling Rock Club.

Shirle’s passion for gardening led her to belong to five garden clubs. She was a founding member of The Fairbanks Garden and Thyme in the Ranch, a past president of the Bel-Air Garden Club in Los Angeles, and an active member of both the Rancho Santa Garden club and the La Jolla Village Garden Club. Shirle graciously hosted many garden tours giving joy to hundreds.

Shirle found the most pleasure as a homemaker and hostess. Her great passions were her family, her friends, her home and her garden. She will always be loved, admired and missed by her many friends but especially by her loving husband Bill, her daughter and son-in-law Alison and Jim Luckman, and grandson and grand daughter-in-law, Tom and Kristy Logan.

A private memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any contributions be made in her name to the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation or to the San Diego Hospice.
