Shirley M. (Schuler ) Calbert passed away peacefully on October 12, 2011 with loving family at her side. Born in Newellton, Louisiana on April 3, 1936 a beautiful spring day on her grandparents' farm. At the age of 7 her family relocated to Stockton, CA. where she completed her education and became a Barber. Shirley started her barber career working in barber shops in Los Angeles, Bay Area, Sacramento, Modesto, Travis AFB and Sharp Army Depot. Shirley worked 27 years at California Youth Authority-Carl Holton School in Stockton until she retired in 2003. The wards affectionately gave her the name Barber Lady. Shirley loved to travel and everywhere Shirley went in California, young men would come from seemingly out of nowhere shouting, "Barber Lady, It's me" and tell her that they have been doing well and thank her for the words of encouragement to strive for a better life. Shirley is preceded in death by her father, Clinton Schuler, mother and stepfather, Irene & Sam Mims, sisters, Irene McClellan & Paulette Moore and brother Clinton Schuler, Jr. Shirley is survived by her daughters, Detria Terry, Wendy Calbert, & Kecia Gary, grandsons, Courtney Boyd and Justin Wasson , sisters,Carolyn (Ramon) Tutwiler, LaLeta Jones and Brenda (William) Blackwell close niece, Kimberly (Joe) Kincaid, their children Hunter & Parker and niece Nicolle Jones, cousin Claudette Shaw (best buddies from toddlers) son-in-law, Barry Boyd along with a host of other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Nephew Jermaine & Mercy Means for their care and love they showed for our Mother, during this most trying time. She enjoyed them being with her.
