Shirley Davis Tooke peacefully passed away in her sleep while at her home in Orem, Utah from a lingering illness on June 26, 2010. Shirley was born on February 23, 1933, in Provo, Utah, one of three children, to Milton J. and Lileth Thomas Schwarzrock Davis and lived in Utah Valley all of her life. Shirley spent the first ten years of her life in the Orem/Carterville area before moving to Provo. She attended Spencer, Timpanogos, Dixon Jr. High, Provo High schools and BYU for two years. While attending BYU, she met William H. Tooke. They were married May 4, 1951 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Shirley, Bill and their family lived the balance of their lives in Orem. In her earlier years, Shirley enjoyed the outdoors, swimming, golfing and skiing. She was also a very talented painter and was an amazing cook according to her family. Her children were the love of her life. Shirley felt that she and Bill "had it all". They particularly enjoyed traveling and exploring the world together with so many enjoyable experiences which gave them a life time of cherished memories. Shirley was a member of the LDS church. She and Bill were members of the Elks and Riverside Country Clubs in Provo for several years and developed many close and wonderful friendships there. Shirley's children are very grateful to their mother and father for giving them a life of wonderful adventures. As a family they spent many days together traveling and exploring from the South Pacific to camping and fishing in the mountains. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William H. Tooke and daughter Suzanne (Tooke) Lewis. She is survived by her two brothers, Dee Davis (Elaine) and Richard Davis of Salt Lake City, her children: William D. Tooke (Debora) of Highland, Julie Christensen (Earl) of Alpine, Michael D. Tooke of Orem, Heather Thiele (Tim) of Fruit Heights and many grand and great grand children. A special thanks to our mother's beloved in-home caretaker for the past 6 years, Nadia Faaootoa. Our family will be forever grateful for her love and devoted service. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 1, 2010, at 1:00 pm at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street, Orem. Friends may call from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm prior to the services. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
