Shirley Nelson Palmer Roy – Shirley Nelson Palmer, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother age 92 died peacefully at the Mt. Ogden Rehabilitation and Care center on Saturday, January 23, 2010 with her family at her side. She was born on May 22, 1917 in Salt Lake City; she was the oldest of five daughters born to Daniel and Stella Nelson. She grew up in Tooele, UT where she graduated from high school, and later she lived in southern California and in Perry, Georgia before returning to Utah. Shirley was married to Rex A. Palmer on June 9, 1946. They were married for 50 years. Rex died on September 12, 1996. Shirley was a member of the LDS Church and loved her friends at the Roy 4th ward. She also loved the great neighbors she was blessed to have in her Roy neighborhood. She worked at several jobs during her life including jobs with the phone company, the aircraft industry, textiles, and in retail sales. She was preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Stella Nelson, Her Husband Rex A. Palmer, and two of her sisters Lucile Lohnes, and Vivian Follett. She is survived by her only child Robert and his wife Tawnya Palmer. Tawnya was Shirley's only and finest daughter. Her two Grandchildren Daniel Palmer of Clearfield, Utah and Christopher Palmer and his wife Carrie and their Daughter Laney all of Kirksville, Missouri. Laney who was just born in September of last year was the light of her Great Grandma's eye and she loved to show everyone Laney's latest pictures. She is also survived by two Sisters Earlene Bowers of Magna, Utah and Alice Edison and her husband Hal of Salt Lake City, Utah. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Myers Roy Mortuary at 5865 South 1900 West Roy. A viewing will be held Saturday from 12:00 to 12:50 p.m. prior to services. Interment, Roy City Cemetery, 5200 South 2300 West Roy, Utah.
