Shonie Springer Baker died Saturday, May 2, 2009, in Ignacio, Colo. He was 37.

Shonie was born February 9, 1972, in Durango, Colo., the son of Teddy and Vera Baker. He loved working on cars and anything mechanical. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting with his friends. Shonie always had a smile and had a great sense of humor. He showed a lot of compassion for animals, whether they were in good spirits or in need of care. Being with friends and relatives was important to him. He loved his "Granny" very much.

Shonie is survived by his mother Vera Armenta O'John and stepfather Roy O'John of Ignacio; grandmothers Pauline Armenta of Durango and Sarah Jane Baker of Ignacio; grandfather Clifford Springer Baker of Ignacio; aunts Connie Baker and Terry Box of Ignacio, and Ann Baker Blackbird of Lawrence, Kan.; uncles Kenneth George of Bensalem, Pa., and Melvin Baker, Ronnie Baker, Iden Baker, and Tooley Box, all of Ignacio; companion/girlfriend Joann Olguin of Ignacio; and numerous cousins, friends and family

He was preceded in death by his father Teddy Baker, his grandfather Jim Armenta, and uncle Weslee Baker.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wed., May 6, 2009, at Baptist Indian Mission, with Rev. Kelly Winlock officiating. Cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango. A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. at Hood Mortuary on Tuesday, May 5, 2009.
