Sidney Nathaniel Askew, Jr., 75, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away November 21, 2011. He was surrounded by his beloved cats, Socks and Madison. A native of Norfolk, VA, he was the son of the late Lucy Belle and Sidney Nathaniel Askew. Sid was the owner of Hamilton Insurance Agency but devoted much of his time to several local organizations. He was past President and long-time member of the Norfolk Sports Club and past Chairman of the Norfolk International Azalea Festival. Although first to admit that he possessed no theatrical talent, Sid was passionate about theater and served as a board member and past President of the Virginia Stage Company. In his spare time, Sid enjoyed golfing at the Princess Anne Country Club, cheering on the Washington Redskins and tending to his famous rose gardens. He was a graduate of Granby High School and Atlantic Christian College and member of First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach. Sid is survived by his daughter, Courtney Askew Martone and husband Peter Wayne Martone, Jr. A funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Virginia Beach on Tuesday at 2 p.m. A reception will be held at the Princess Anne Country Club immediately following the church service. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Stage Company.
