Sim Cullen Coker, age 89, a native of Evergreen, AL, and a longtime resident of Mobile, AL, died on Thursday, November 24, 2011. A well-loved, compassionate man, he served in World War II and was an active member of Fulton Road Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Massey Coker; parents, William Cullen Coker and Mary Kyser Coker; sister, Evelyn McLeroy; daughter, Deborah Lynn Carnes; and grandson, John Wayne Cruit, Jr.
He is survived by his second wife of 43 years, Ouida Coker of Mobile, Al; son, Steve (Janet) Coker of Houston, MS; daughters, Cathy Singleton and Karen (Terry) Rogers both of Mobile, AL; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many loving relatives and friends.
The funeral services will be held Monday, November 28, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home, with family receiving friends on Sunday, November 27, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with Rev. Art Burroughs and Rev. Gene Kerr officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery.
A sincere thank-you to the doctors, nurses, and support staff at William F. Green Veterans Home, Covenant Hospice, Somerby of West Mobile Memory Care Unit, and Odyssey Hospice, for their passion , skill and care for Sim.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Fulton Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 1800 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, AL 36605.
