Sonja Eleanor Benson, 64, of Denver, Colorado, died Thursday, January 16, 2003, at North Colorado Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 21, 2003, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Linn Grove Cemetery, Greeley, CO. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Monday, January 20, 2003, at Allnutt Funeral Service/Macy Chapel. Burial will be at Linn Grove Cemetery. Sonja was born August 24, 1938, in Greeley, Colorado to Aaron V. and Esther Linnea (Rapp) Benson. She was a graduate of Eaton High School in the class of 1956. She then graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis in Special Education. She taught in the Denver Public School System for over 28 years and also became a licensed real estate agent after she retired from teaching. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greeley and was a current member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Denver. She loved to travel and even went on a yearlong sabbatical to European and Scandinavian countries. She also enjoyed music, reading, hiking, and biking. She was passionately loved by her family and was affectionately known as “Blondie”. Her brother, Carl Benson of Eaton, CO, sisters, Violet Carlson of LaSalle, CO and Shirley Uhrich of Greeley, CO survive her. Her parents, sister, Agnes Hawley and brothers, Kenneth and K. Edwin Benson preceded her in death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sonja Benson Memorial Fund in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 702 13th Street, Greeley, CO 80631.
