Sophronia A. Radford-Crawford-Moore, left this world peacefully in the dark of night for her heavenly journey on July 10, 2011, surrounded by loving family members. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Stanley and Mattie Sue Bruce Radford. Born in 1927 in Buncombe County, NC, she was one of ten children. She was preceded in death by both parents; sisters, Viola Sprinkle, Florence Radford, and Emma Radford; and brothers, G.B. Radford, G.K. Radford, Don Radford and Talmadge Radford. Surviving are her brothers, Thomas Stanley Radford, Jr., of Norfolk, VA and Richard E. Radford of Landrum, SC. As a loving mother, on more than one occasion, she referred to her children as her "crowning glories on earth." She and Loyd W. Crawford had four children, Danny (spouse Annie), Gary, Debbie and Lloyd (spouse Sarah). From these four children she was continuously blessed as a Nana with eighteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. She was blessed throughout her lifetime with a multitude of beautiful/loving nieces and nephews. While on this earth, she was proud of the 35 years of employment in the Infant Department at Leggett's in the Portsmouth/Chesapeake locations. She embodied the ideal employee… always on the job and happy to serve. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Green Lakes Baptist Church, with Dr. Dwight Buchholz officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.snellingsfuneralhome.com.
