Dateline-East Kingston, NH SPC, Nicholas Paul Bernier, 21, East Kingston, NH was fatally wounded June 25, 2011 in the line of duty while deployed in Afghanistan with the 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, LA. He was born August 20, 1989 at Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, NH. He was a graduate of the Class of 2007 from Exeter High School, Exeter NH. Nicholas was a member of the high schools wrestling team, and the Exeter Swim Team. He was also a member of the National Emergency Medical Technician Association. Nicholas was awarded The Purple Heart, The Bronze Star, The Combat Medical Medal and numerous other medals and military citations. Nicholas was a committed soldier, a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and devoted friend. He is survived by his father, Paul W. Bernier, his mother and step-father, Tina M. (Wilcox) and Jeffrey M. Clements, 1 sister, Brittany M. (Bell) May, 2 brothers, Bradley T. Bernier, Christopher M. Bernier, his grandfather, Wilfred P. Bernier, his grandmother, BillieJean (Patnaude) Bernier, his grandmother, Theresa V. (Nilsen) Wilcox and several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Calling hours will held on Friday, July 8, 2011 at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine Street, Exeter, NH from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at St. Michael Parish, 9 Lincoln Street, Exeter, NH at 11:00 AM. Full military honors will follow. In lieu of flower the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Fisher House Foundation fund.
