Stanley J. Stancavage, Sr., age 64, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, died Wednesday evening at Community Medical Center. He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Cook Stancavage. Wed on February 5, 1969, the couple were married for 42 years. Born on October 11, 1947, son of the late Stanley L. and Mary Cohowicz Stancavage, Stanley was educated at Old Forge High School. He had worked for Thompson Electronics and the Univeresity of Scranton, but prior to his retirement, he most recently worked in maintenance for Golden Technologies of Duryea. In May 18, 1988, he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant for the United States Army Reserves. He was previously a member of both the American Legion and VFW of Duryea. Of Roman Catholic faith, he was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Duryea. A former volunteer for both the Lawrenceville Hose Co. and the Old Forge Ambulance Department, he was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He was an avid fan of both the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Philadelphia Phillies. A very loving husband, father, brother and grandfather, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is also survived by his son, Stanley J. Stancavage, Jr., at home; his brother, Robert Stancavage and wife Sharlene of West Scranton; his grandson, Nathan Stancavage, at home; and several nieces and nephews. His daughter, Kimberly Stancavage Smith, died on June 24, 2008. His family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the doctors, nurses and aides for all the care they had given to Stanley throughout his illness. Funeral services will begin on Monday at 8:45AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 9:30AM Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 529 Stephenson Street in Duryea, to be celebrated by Rev. Andrew Sinott. Interment with full military honors by the AMVETS Honor Guard will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Old Forge. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home.
