Estes Park resident Stefanie Luke Shoemaker passed from this life on Sunday, November 2, 2008, surrounded by her loved ones. Stef was born June 24, 1961, in Richmond, VA, and was raised in Des Moines, IA. She graduated from Hoover High School and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Drake University in Des Moines. Stef also spent a year and a half while in college, studying jewelry making, sculpture and art history at the Lorenzo di Medici Art Institute in Florence, Italy. She worked as a jeweler for Krehlik Spiller in Urbandale, IA for several years before moving to Estes Park, CO, in 1996, where she immediately became the bench jeweler for Heirloom Jewelers. After meeting Anni Trahan, and discovering their talents complemented each other, they decided to become partners in their own jewelry store, Bella Creations, which opened in the spring of 2003. Stef embraced life enthusiastically, with an incredible sense of humor, and always remained upbeat. She had a contagious laugh; she loved traveling, swimming, sailing the Caribbean, bowling, and most of all, her animals. She also volunteered teaching Jazzercise classes. In her own fight against cancer, she became involved with Relay for Life, an organization devoted to awareness of cancer and support of cancer survivors. Stef is survived by her husband Jeb Shoemaker of Estes Park, her parents James and Marian Luke of Des Moines; a brother Christopher Luke and his wife Laura of Milford, MI and their children Samantha and Ryan; a stepdaughter Eryn Mills of Estes Park; and many other relatives. She was predeceased by an infant son Luke Thomas Shoemaker. A viewing will be held on Friday, November 7, 2008 from 3:00 until 6:00 PM at Allnutt Estes Park Chapel, 1302 Graves Avenue, Estes Park, CO. A memorial service will be conducted on Sunday, November 9, 2008 at 1:00 PM at the American Legion Post 119. A potluck will follow. Memorial contributions can be made to the Pet Association of Estes Park or American Cancer Society, in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 1302 Graves Avenue, Estes Park, Co 80517.
