Stella Bartlett, loving mother, wife and cherished friend of all who knew her, passed away at home in Leland, N.C. on February 7, 2010. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Janie Sharpe, her son Jimmy McCoy, one granddaughter and two grandsons. She is survived by her husband Robert Bartlett and three children, Joe McCoy of Fayetteville, N.C., Faye Lloyd of Leland, N.C. and Sam McCoy of Helena, Alabama; 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Stella loved working in the yard with her plants and flowers and she volunteered to care for the indoor plants at Brunswick County Academy in Bolivia, N.C. She loved working with children of all ages and shared her love of plants and flowers with them. Her grandson, Joe Bowman, wrote: "Grandma Bartlett was so special to me for more reasons than I can list. The one thing she gave to me that no one else could was pride in my Creek heritage. In tribute to her, I would like to send her to heaven with this old Creek prayer, in English, that has been passed down through our family. (Dance and fly to your meeting with God). I love you Grandma." A Celebration of Stella's Life will be held for family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in Stella's memory to Lake Waccamaw Boys and Girls Home at Post Office Box 127, Lake Waccamaw, N.C. 28450.
