Stephen A. Matarazzo, MD, 66, of Ambler, died on November 23, 2011 at VNA Hospice of Philadelphia. He was the beloved husband of Mary Kathleen (Whiteside) Matarazzo for 13 years. He was born in South Philadelphia, PA on February 18, 1945 to the late Louis and Frances (Schiavone) Matarazzo. Dr. Matarazzo was a graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School class of 1962, St. Joseph University where he was a Pre-Med major, Hahnemann University Medical School, and achieved his specialty in Gastroenterology from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. He was the founding and lead partner of Fox Chase GI where he practiced for 25 years. He recently was a partner and practiced with Hillmont GI in Flourtown, PA. He was affiliated with Nazareth Hospital, Jeanes Hospital, Chestnut Hill Hospital and Abington Lansdale Hospital. Dr. Matarazzo was named Physician of the Year in 1994 by the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley Chapter of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. He was also a member of Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Church in North Wales. In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by 2 children Stephen M. Matarazzo and wife Michelle of Newtown Square, PA, Michele L. Matarazzo of Colorado, 2 stepchildren Jeff Ziernicki of New York, NY, Jason Ziernicki and wife Danielle of New Hope, PA, 5 grandchildren Rex, Alexa, Madison, Jason Jude, Max, a brother Louis Matarazzo and wife Josef of Staten Island, NY, 2 sisters Carol Beard and Diane Bohs and husband Ken of New Jersey, a brother-in-law John Whiteside and wife Marge of Yardley, PA, and many nieces and nephews.
