Stephen Anthony Schneller passed away at the age of 63 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in New Orleans, LA and lived in the area all his life. He attended St. Francis Xavier School in Metairie, graduated from Archbishop Rummel High School and attended UNO before
enlisting in the US Navy. He was on the USS Vancouver during the Vietnam War as a Radioman 2nd class (RM2). After leaving the Navy he went to work for South Central Bell and retired from
AT&T after 37 years. He will be remembered as a man who loved God, his country, his family and friends. He spent several years refereeing for local football and baseball. He also enjoyed watching football, especially the Saints when they won the Super Bowl. He loved Mardi Gras, riding and marching with several clubs and at present was an officer for the Krewe of Excalibur. He will be greatly missed by all.
Steve is survived by his wife of 15 years Mary Nell Peters Schneller; daughters, Stacie S. Lightell (Ronnie) and Stephanie A. Schneller; step-daughter, Judie A. Hahn (Lance); siblings, Rev. Michael Schneller, Eileen S. Genovese (Ray), Gregory Schneller (Charlotte) and Mark Schneller (Eliza); grandchildren, Victoria and Madison Lightell, Lucas and Levi Hahn; his wife by first marriage, Jo Ann Caruso Schneller for 23 years and many other nieces, nephews and extended family. He is preceded in death by his mother, Marie Long Schneller; father, Walter Frank Schneller, Jr. and brother Eric R. Schneller.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at St. Francis Xavier Church, 444 Metairie Rd at 12:00 Noon. Friends may visit between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the Funeral Home and after 10:00 AM on Thursday at the Church. Interment in Metairie Cemetery.
