Mr. Stephen H. Whitney, 65, of 241 West Second St., Waynesboro, died at 5:05 A.M., Friday, January 20, 2012, in his home. He had been in failing health for the past several years. Born October 28, 1946 in Chicago, IL, he was the son of the late Russell H. and Claire G. (Harris) Whitney. Mr. Whitney graduated from Annapolis High School with the class of 1965. He later received his Bachelor's Degree in Advertising and Public Relations from Brigham Young University, graduating in 1970. He and his wife of over 42 years, Bunny Whitney, were married on September 6, 1969 in Los Angeles, CA. They have resided in Waynesboro since 1990. Mr. Whitney, along with his wife, owned and operated This is the Place Bookstore in Kensington, MD. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served as a Ward Mission Leader and a teacher in the church. Mr. Whitney enjoyed editing the family newsletter, photography, and emergency preparedness. In addition to his wife, he is survived by eight children, Michelle M. Whitney of St. George, UT, Byron K. Whitney of Athens, TX, Joshua M. Whitney of Waynesboro, Jesse D. Whitney of Waynesboro, Seth D. Whitney of Springville, UT, Micah C. Whitney of Fairfield, PA, Adam R. Whitney of Pleasant Grove, UT, and John A. Whitney of Springville, UT; 21 grandchildren; one sister, Julia W. Ringle of Annapolis, MD; and a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be private at the request of the family.
