VIETNAM VETERAN

Mr. Stephen Ira Hopfe age 75 of Maggie Valley, passed away at his residence on Monday, April 2, 2012. He was born in Portland Oregon to the late Raymond and Roma Henderson Hopfe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother in law Tom Moore. Mr. Hopfe retired from the US Air Force as a Captain, serving in Vietnam, and obtaining a Purple Heart as well as numerous medals. Following his retirement, he and his wife owned and operated the Rocky Waters Motel in Maggie Valley, and in his free time enjoyed taking art classes at WCU. Left to cherish his memory are his former wife Shirley Hopfe; daughters Lori Cagle and her husband Ricky of Maggie Valley, Jenny Jones and her husband Larry of Sneedville TN, Amy Albury and her husband Ray of Sylva, Becky Gombert of Waynesville; sisters Suzanne Moore of Vancouver WA, Kathryn Wynveen and her husband Bill of Newport OR; thirteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A gathering of friends and family will be held on Thursday April 5, 2012 from 5-8 PM at the Jonathan Creek Fire Department.
