Harris, Stephen L., age 77, a resident of Annapolis since 1967, died Feb. 5, 2012 at Johns Hopkins Hospital from complications following heart surgery. Steve was born October 21, 1934 in Pennsylvania and graduated from George School in Bucks County, PA. He then served in the US Army for three years. Steve was a member of the American Institute of Architects, as well as the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. He did much historical preservation work for Historic Annapolis, Inc., as well as home designs during his private practice. He designed the well-known Busch's Chesapeake Inn Restaurant that used to be on Rt. 50. During his lifetime, Steve was an enthusiastic sailor, scuba diver, kayaker, walker and swimmer. He was also an excellent watercolorist.
Steve was preceded in death by his wife Caryl Osborn Cryer, who died in 1996. He is survived by two stepdaughters, Kacy Goldsby (David) of Missouri and Anne Baxter (Timothy) of Alabama; nine grandchildren; and his former wife, Elizabeth (Betty/Liz) Harris of Annapolis.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, February 11 from 12-1:30 PM at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, with a memorial service to follow at 1:30 in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be private.
