Steve was born in San Antonio, TX where his family lived in a duplex, sharing the other half of the house with his grandparents. His father was a part-time music minister, so church and music were always an important part of Steve's life. When he was in 4th grade, his family moved to Garland, TX and found a quiet neighborhood to raise a family. They became members of Orchard Hills Baptist Church where he met a certain little redhead with pigtails and freckles. Steve later claimed that the minute he saw Pam, he knew he would marry her. Steve spent many hours riding his bike on dirt piles close by their house that were used to construct the new LBJ freeway nearby. So much for quiet! He actually rode his bike, not only around their own neighborhood, but all over that end of town, working a paper route, visiting friends, and riding up to church for youth activities. Steve attended South Garland High School where he was involved in band, choir, and Showboaters. He played french horn and electric bass, but excelled in vocal performance. He also had a natural acting ability that he used with his singing, playing several roles in productions. His most-remembered performances were when he played Jesus at Easter. He attended Eastfield Community College, Texas Tech University, and Southwestern Theological Seminary while continuing to work. On June 9, 1979, he married his high school sweetheart, Pam Guthrie, and celebrated their 32nd anniversary this year. They were blessed with four beautiful children: Audrah, Micah, Tyler, and Caleb. He also has a grandson, Carter Stephen, who brightened every day. Steve served as Worship Pastor at Rowlett Bible Fellowship and at Orchard Hills Baptist Church. This was his passion, but he also was an auto mechanic to pay the bills. In August of 2009, Steve was diagnosed with AML, a form of Leukemia. Through treatments, he went into remission and continued to work. In December, 2010, that horrible disease rared its head again, leading to a very difficult fight over the next 10 1/2 months. Steve was surrounded by family and friends and even sang with them before the Lord called him home on that early Thursday morning. Steve loved to serve his Lord and serve others and will be greatly missed.
